Welcome
Jazzaddict is the groundbreaking jazz dance
syllabus at the forefront of dance education in Australasia.
Developed to create passionate, versatile jazz dancers, Jazzaddict empowers and encourages students to be creative with their own style and choreography.
This exciting dance syllabus is the brainchild of New Zealander Corinne Yee. Corinne's 20 year career in the dance industry encompasses performing, teaching, choreographing, examining, adjudicating, business and management. This experience has equipped her to create a unique dance syllabus that is current and relevant to students and teachers.
The Jazzaddict Australasia curriculum provides the highest standards of technique and performance, successfully preparing it's students to enter the dynamic dance industry of today.
Jazzaddict Australasia:
• is technically stimulating with a strong emphasis
on style and performance (all levels incorporate a classical
technique exercise to supplement jazz technique),
• encourages student creativity by incorporating
impromptu work and student choreography,
• exposes students to the different jazz styles
including musical theatre (from Junior levels) lyrical work
(from Elementary grades), and contemporary work (from Intermediate
levels).
Jazzaddict Australasia is committed to
providing a complete package of the most advanced teaching resources and teacher support. This
includes being able to provide assistance with new studio
owners starting up, as well as support for established studio directors
who are seeking fresh, vibrant new work to grow their business.
Jazzaddict at a glance:
• Registration. Studios must be
registered to teach the Jazzaddict syllabus. Registration
is valid for one calendar year (1 January – 31 December). Jazzaddict reserves the right to decline registration. Annual examinations are a compulsory requirement of the syllabus.
Regional Eligibility. Legitimate studios in the main centres or existing examining centres of Australasia and Hong Kong are eligible for application to register for Jazzaddict Australasia. Studios outside of these regions will be considered individually.
• 15 grades in total (including Solo Seal). Students can access the syllabus at different ages and levels
of experience from preschool to adults (the Jazzaddict Studio
Manual provides entry level guidelines). There are special
exam allowances in the technical requirements for adult
students.
Teacher Certificate. In addition to the grades, we also offer a Teacher examination which includes a comprehensive textbook to ensure your teachers are trained in 'health and safety' through to 'business and client communication'. This is an examination which involves oral and practical components.
• Sophisticated Teaching Resources. Teaching notes, dvds and cds provide clear "user-friendly"
learning systems. The teaching dvds include rear view and slow-motion
options for amalgamations. All dvds include a music cd which
is licensed for teacher training use.
Studios may use the cd for classes if the business holds the appropriate current music license. Teachers have the option of using the syllabus cd or their own choice of
music.
• Examinations. All registered studios
are required to enter students for examinations. These are
held in the third term of the school year. Examiners assess and grade students in your studio. Grades allocated range from
Pass through to Honours (see Studio Information for marking system). Awards (including monetary scholarships
toward tuition at their dance studio), are presented to
the top student of each level overall in Australasia. The
Jazzaddict Studio Manual provides comprehensive information
regarding Jazzaddict examination processes and details (or
view Examination Info on this website).
Medal Tests. The purpose of Medal Tests is to encourage students who have difficulty in attaining the technical standards of the syllabus. This assessment provides an option for students to participate in classes and be assessed alongside examination students. The Medal Test marking system is focussed on syllabus knowledge and performance with less weighting on the technical aspects, compared to the Examination marking system. The provision of Medal Tests enables schools to maintain students for longer in their studios and lengthen the students' enjoyment of, and participation in dance.
• Safety Precautions. A qualified
physiotherapist has approved the Jazzaddict Australasian
dance syllabus however, it is the responsibility of the
Teacher to ensure that students warm up, stretch appropriately
and work within the limitations of the students’ individual
abilities. Jazzaddict Australasian is not liable for any
injury sustained in a registered dance studio.
• Continuing Education. Bi-annual teacher
workshops are held in a main centre (usually in Australia).
It is a compulsory requirement that all registered studios attend workshops to maintain syllabus standards and be
aware of developments and amendments. The workshop covers
syllabus work, examination requirements and business seminars, as well as providing a forum for teacher feedback,
networking opportunities and open classes.
• Communication. A regular newsletter
is distributed to all registered studios
throughout the year and includes examination scholarship
announcements.
